The World’s Coolest Airports
There are some really cool airports around the world and they go way beyond just giving you lift in the sky. Some have set up a special place for customers to nap until their next flight while others double as souvenir shops and mini cinemas. They are nothing like the average airport and will make a brief stay there so much more fun. Here are five examples of the most stylish airports in the world.
1. Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand
First things first, let’s get the name out of the way. It’s pronounced “sue-wahn-ah-poon.” Now let’s get to the good stuff. What makes this airport a top tier facility is the large number of restaurants and supermarkets. The cuisines there are mostly Thai fast food and even other types of Asian restaurants. If you’re tired of that, the in-airport train on the lower level will take you to the city for some sightseeing. And at the end of it all, you can nod off on any of the lounge chairs that were put there with sleepy travelers in mind.
2. Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates
Layovers can be really boring and the hours can feel like they don’t ever end. Luckily, the Dubai International Airport understands this, which is why they’ve set up entertainment areas where travelers can stream unlimited movies and TV shows for free. And there’s no lagging either because the Wi-Fi is one of the fastest in the world, with speeds reaching up to 39.50 mbps. As for the food, you can choose from local restaurants, a Heineken lounge and Wolfgang Puck’s The Kitchen, one of the only two Pret a Mangers in the country.
3. Incheon International Airport, South Korea
Travelers at South Korea’s Incheon International Airport who need to catch a few z’s before their next flight can do so by slinking down into any of the reclining chairs in the darkened corners of the room. Once nap time’s over, you can use the airport’s free shower to freshen up—it even comes with a toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, a soap and a hair dryer. When that’s taken care of, you can head check out the cultural museum or you can have a go at making traditional Korean-style bags and fans at the craft stores. Or just have some fun at the ice-skating rink!
4. Munich Airport, Germany
Germany’s Munich Airport is considered to be one of Europe’s top 5 airports for a reason. What makes it so unique is its on-site brewery, in case you’re feeling for a little ale before your next flight. There’s also an in-terminal park with a mini golf course, giant slide and an interactive aircraft experience. Feeling tired? Then it’s off to dreamland in the airport’s private sleeping cabin. But if you’re still buzzing with energy then you can pay a visit to the biggest man-made standing wave where an airport staff might be hosting the pro contest.
5. Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport takes entertainment just as seriously as getting you to your destination on time. While waiting for your flight, you can kill some time by watching a couple of movies or TV shows or browsing on the internet kiosks. Looking for some souvenirs? Then just clear things with customs so you can gain access to anything from jewelry to toys. Or you can head to the food court for some local Malaysian food. Once you’re all done, you can try to get some beauty rest in the hotel’s capsule-style beds for up to 12 hours.
