People Who Married Inanimate Objects
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Is this what was going through these people’s minds when they decided to get hitched? That’s sure to raise and furrow quite a few eyebrows, but hey, it’s no one’s business as long as they’re not bothering anyone with their weirdness.
1. The Woman Who Married the Eiffel Tower
Erika Eiffel, an American competitive archer, is a lover of anything and everything inanimate. But by far, her favorite is the Eiffel Tower who she tied the knot with in a commitment ceremony in 2007. But the iconic French landmark is far from her first love. That would be Erika’s wooden archery bow with which she’s won numerous professional competitions. And her heart also bleeds for the Berlin Wall that “exchanged” “I Do’s” with a woman named Eija-Riitta Eklof-Berliner-Mauer.
2. The Man Who Married a Robot
At first glance, Zoltan appears to be a regular guy from Georgia. That is until you learn that his wife is a robot named Alice. By his own account, Alice keeps him perfectly happy and has even helped him kick a few dirty habits to the curb. She even got him to go to church again, much to his parents’ delight. But they weren’t too thrilled after learning of their son’s desire to marry a woman made of steel and wires. But after some coaxing, they gave their approval for their son’s unconventional relationship.
3. The Man Who Married a Computer Game Character
At least Zoltan’s “wife” is a physical one, just not flesh and bone. The same can’t be said for a Japanese man who goes by the name of SAL9000 after he fell head over heels with a video game character. He had a lot of virtual options to choose from but in the end, SAL9000 realized that this animated girl was the only one for him. The wedding was carried out in 2009 by a member of clergy who was more than happy to officiate the ceremony. As for the bride, she relayed her vows from her home, which is none other than her husband’s Nintendo game.
4. The Woman Who Married a Cardboard Cut-out of Robert Pattinson
When Twilight hit the big screen in 2008, many teenage girls found themselves into two major camps: Team Jacob or Team Edward. However, for a woman named Lauren Adkins this wasn’t just some crazy fangirl phase. It was the real deal and she took her love for the brooding vampire to a whole new level. Adkins jumped the broom with the man of her dreams in 2013, even if he was just a flat cardboard cut-out. As for her wedding, she claimed it was for a school “project,” but what kind of project requires a wedding dress, cake and a grand reception?
5. The Man Who Married a Tree
Unlike the other items on this list, at least this one’s technically a living organism. In November of 2013, a man by the name of Richard Torres donned a dapper white suit and made things official with a tree… in Argentina. He said his vows and even exchanged rings. He later tried to downplay his actions by claiming it was to bring awareness to global warming and environmental issues. He even planned on getting others to follow his example in protecting trees.
