The Dumbest Crimes Committed by Celebrities

Celebrities, much like us regular folks, are no strangers to making idiotic decisions. Many times, their extreme fame and wealth often plays a role in their ridiculous stunts. And it doesn’t help one bit either that their run-ins with law enforcements are usually well-documented for the world to see. From drag racing and speed driving, to stealing police properties, here are some of the dumbest crimes committed by famous people.

1. Robert Downey Jr.

Before he became Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr. had a pretty wild reputation as a hardcore party boy with a long history of substance abuse. One of his most famous antics include that one time when he drunkenly waltzed into the wrong home in Malibu, California which turned out to be that of his neighbor’s. Downey was subsequently charged with trespassing and served a short stint in jail. He also had a few more run-ins with the law, that is until he entered rehab and turned his life around for good.

2. Tim McGraw & Kenny Chesney

In the year 2000, Nashville-based country boys Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney had a bit of a scuffle with Buffalo law enforcements following Chesney’s impromptu wild ride with the county deputy’s horse. When the sheriff tried to stop Chesney, his pal McGraw and their manager Mark Russo retaliated by assaulting the officers. The pair were both arrested and charged then released on bail. According to the duo, the whole situation was a bit of a misunderstanding which all started when the sheriff’s daughter gave Chesney full permission to sit on her father’s horse. McGraw and the manager only got involved as they believed Chesney was in danger of being harmed.

3. Justin Bieber

For Justin Bieber, a night of heavy drinking led to his arrest and a 10-hour-long custody holding before being released on a $2,500 bond. So what led to all this? A spontaneous drag race between the Canadian pop singer who drove a yellow Lamborghini Spyder, and his friend Khalil Amir Sharieff in a red Ferrari. His entourage, which also included his father, apparently blocked off the street with several SUVs. To make matters worse, he was driving with an expired license and was repeatedly resisting arrest. In a plea deal, the Miami state dropped the DUI charges in exchange for a $500 fine and a 12-hour anger management course.

4. Jim Morrison

Prior to his untimely death in 1971, Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, was already well known for substance abuse-filled antics. However, one of his most prominent shenanigans took place at a football game in Tallahassee, Florida, where Morrison randomly decided to steal an umbrella along with a police officer’s helmet from his squad car. To no one’s surprise, the Tallahassee Police Department hit him with numerous charges including petty larceny, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace by being drunk.

5. Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie and her former bestie Paris Hilton were one of the top socialites of the early 2000s. Like many celebrity kids, she had a penchant for disregarding the law, like that time in 2006 when she drove her Mercedes-Benz SUV on the wrong side of the Ventura Freeway in Los Angeles. She was under the influence too, and admitted to taking illegal substances. This was her second DUI conviction in three years, and for this she was sentenced to four days in jail and fined $2,048, following by enrolling in a mandatory 18-month anti-drinking driver education program.
