Ah yes, Halloween. The only time of the year when it’s acceptable to walk up to a stranger’s house in hopes of getting free candy. All while dressed up as your favorite character, too! Snickers, Twix and Milky Way are just some of the goodies that every kid hopes to get their hands on after so much walking. Unfortunately, there’s always those unavoidable lame items that just about everyone hopes they don’t get. Although some of you may disagree with this list, here are five of the worst things to get on Halloween.

1. Apples

We all know that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but a fruit is definitely the last thing that any child wants on Halloween. Not when there’s so much candy to dig in! And it’s even worse when some sadistic person decides to sneak a razor blade in it. Believe it or not, there have been several incidents of children needing stitches after biting into apples and even chocolates. So between this and a natural preference for sweets over fruits, you can see why so many children would find it lame to get an apple for a treat.

2. Sugar-free Gum

What is the point of gum if there’s no sugar in it? While this may be great for the diabetic children, regular kids will be scrunching up their faces before spitting it out. One of the things that makes gum so fun to chew is the flavor. Take that away and what you have left is the very definition of the words bland and boring. No one likes that. Sugar-free gum hardly counts as a treat and must be some kind of sly and sneaky trick. There’s simply no other way to put it.

3. Raisins

Dried fruits are one of those things that polarizes people; some folks love it, while others couldn’t think anything worse. It especially sucks when you fall in the latter group, only to find a box of raisins among your stash of candy. Even the former group wouldn’t be impressed by that. Still, they’d have a much easier time pushing those feelings aside as it wouldn’t be any different from eating chocolates with raisins in them. But still, why would anyone think this is a good idea?

4. Granola Bars

Halloween is that one time of the year when parents allow their children to go all in and give in to their sweet tooth. So getting another healthy snack is one sure way to furrow some tiny eyebrows. Sure, some of them are made with chocolates, peanut butter and even honey, but it’s still disappointing to get granola bars of all things on Halloween. With that being said, this either ends up in the trash or in the stomachs of the adults.

5. Candy Corn

And finally we have what is perhaps the most universally disliked candy on Earth which is none other than candy corn. Some say it tastes like artificially sweetened candy wax. Others describe it as being way too sweet, like pure sugar with no bold flavors. One comedian even states that candy corn tastes like something that was made out of oil, which, if melted down, can run a car. Even though there are a few candy corn enthusiasts out there, it seems that the majority of people, especially children, sigh in disdain whenever it lands in the candy bags.
